the first is the worst

The first blog post is the worst. You have no idea how long it takes me to write it. The days/weeks/months wasted in contemplation. And all the failed attempts, the aborted words.  Yes, the virtual blank page causes me great anxiety. Somewhere is always the thought, what if it stays blank?

But that thought is ridiculous and purely a product of my anxiety. I have plenty to write about. There is the nine month old fact that I am now a stay-at-home mom. I’m not entirely work free as I’m helping run my husband’s construction company but it’s the most work-free I’ve been since I was 14. I’m even taking a break on grad school to get used this new phase of life.  Motherhood is naturally strange and strangely natural. Jessica Robin Isdell is a strong-willed, independent Aries baby. Totally her mom and dad’s baby.

It’s all been a blast, minus the sleep deprivation in the beginning, but the last month has been especially fun. She has learned how to crawl with her belly off the ground, stand up, cruise furniture while standing, pick up things off the floor while standing, and say mama, baba and dada. Yesterday she did a hilarious move where she put her hands behind her head and and flapped her elbows. She also has taken a fondness to what we call butt pumping. She stands holding on to something and sort of jumps up and down with her butt out. Butt Pumping is too funny.

In total cliche fashion, I’ve taken to couponing to save some money for the household. I tried doing it ages ago and found it too laborious but the internet age has made it faster and easier. Today I bought $131.68 for a net cost of $27 and it wasn’t even one of my better outings. I read the blogs, buy newspapers each Sunday and cut what I need for each trip. I make small trips with the baby who will give me an hour in the cart without complain and leave her with Dad for my bigger shopping extravaganzas. All in all it’s a fun and lucrative little hobby for a person with some extra time.

Besides all that newness, some old things remain. I still love music and my internet radio station, revolving radio, lives on, though barely. Live everything else, it’s desperate for an update. The arrival of my new laptop is going to speed things up on that front soon enough. And now that Jessie has successfully spent the night at Grandma’s, my concert going days will soon be back as well.

So there really is no excuse for not writing. There should be stupid things for me to say each and every day. Here concludes the first one.
